Summer Breezes (190 x 112cm) and Gentle Wind (190 x 112cm)

The challenge was to look at space and depict it's serenity in stitched cloth, in particular the air over Lake Eyre.

Australia's Lake Eyre is the terminal point of the world's largest drainage system. The Eyre basin is 1/6 of the continent and 15m below sea level. It has only been filled to capacity 3 times in the past 150 years.

The unique ecosystem of the area is of particular fascination this year as after years of drought the rain of 2009/2010 has seen the birds returning to nest in amazing numbers

Layers of light fabric (silk organza), hand stitched with various threads.
